Abacus Classes Online vs Offline: Pros & Cons for Kids

Abacus

Abacus Maths classes today are the most sought after when it comes to enabling your child with a unique advantage to be ahead in today’s competitive world. Abacus classes have proven to be the platform that enables kids to do superfast and accurate arithmetic calculations, including all the key operations like multiplication, addition, subtraction and multiplication. Furthermore, Abacus trained kids can also easily handle the complex calculations including decimal and fractions.

Speaking from my personal experience, my son enrolled into Abacus classes online roughly 10 months ago and is presently doing the 4th level of Abacus, where he is learning addition and subtraction of Double Digit via Visualization, and also the multiplication. Within a span of 10 months, he is able to solve the following types of arithmetic questions mentally (using visualization):

  • 43 + 87 – 32 – 21 + 98 + 69 – 39
  • 57 + 98 – 43 – 21 + 80 + 43 – 23

And using the Abacus tool he has progressed to do the multiplication with ease, example below

  • 43 x 67
  • 3 x 86
  • 39 x 53

His friends and teachers are both surprised at this and appreciate him a lot, since he is able to do these calculations mentally in both superfast and accurate manner.

Whether to go with online Abacus classes or offline

Well, in my mind the reasons to choose online over offline are very simple and clear. Lets us look at them below:

  1. The most important to go with online classes is that the online mode give flexibility to choose the best Abacus trainer from allover the world instead of being limited to couple of miles near to your place.
  2. Convenience of home for young kids. As parents we don’t want them to travel alone in extreme weather conditions like summers, winters and rains, do we?
  3. Even when you are travelling somewhere for work or family reasons and have to take your kids alone, they can continue to attend all their online classes. Whereas in case of offline classes they would surely end up missing the classes.
  4. Saves precious time that would otherwise go into travel. For a class of 1 hour the kid would leave at least 20 min prior to the class, so in total 30-40 minutes extra will be spent on every offline class. Now just multiply that with 8 classes in a month and then 12 months, he will end up spending 3840 minutes extra which equates to 64 hours. Now you decide for yourself.

Are Online Abacus Math classes always beneficial as compared to Abacus classes

The truth is that in most cases the answer is YES. However, in certain cases if you know of a very good Abacus teacher near your locality, then of course you can go for offline Abacus classes also. But based on the study that I have done, there are very few Abacus trainers who are really good and thorough in their profession. Although we can find many Abacus schools near our place, the teachers they hire are not having even a year of teaching experience at times and are college pass out students in many cases who are doing part time teaching work. Remember that Abacus is a new language to learn Maths and even the teachers need to spend a lot of time (in fact many years) to learn it thoroughly and more importantly, to be able to teach effectively to the kids.

How to choose the best online Abacus classes?

While enrolling into Abacus online classes initially I was skeptical (just like many other parents) whether they will be effective or not. I spent 2-3 dedicated weeks just doing the research to narrow down which Abacus school to enroll, and eventually decided to go with an upcoming academy Mathcruise, for following key reasons:

  • The Google reviews on their website clearly shows the trust of current and past parents and these reviews are really from ground level.
  • The confidence shows clearly when you do initial counselling with their chief trainer, who will guide you genuinely about the basics of Abacus and how to choose the right course for your kid (instead of blindly enrolling into Abacus).
  • Before enrollment, their chief trainer always personally interacts with the child to ensure the kid is able to interact comfortably online and is able to express as well as listen clearly, and follows the Abacus steps that trainer is sharing.
  • I looked at the demo videos of their current and past students as posted on their website gallery, and it shows the amazing results that they have been providing even for kids as young as 5 years.

What are the general benefits of Abacus Math classes

Tremendous improvement in speed, confidence, and academic performance are the guaranteed benefits of Abacus if the child does the Abacus training properly for at least 6-9 months. If I talk about my son, the regular participation in online classes has helped solidify his understanding of basic math concepts. These strengthened foundations have contributed to noticeable improvements in his overall academic performance, making learning a more positive and rewarding experience.

Since enrolling in online Abacus classes, he has experienced remarkable progress in several areas. Not only has his speed in solving mathematical problems increased, but he also approaches math assignments at school with much greater confidence. This boost in self-assurance stems from consistent practice and engaging interactive sessions, which have transformed mathematics from a daunting subject into an enjoyable activity.

I hope this article helps clarify the benefits of Abacus Maths classes and assists you in deciding between offline and online options, based on key factors. I’m confident you’ll make the best choice as a parent, and my only advice is not to delay—regardless of which mode you choose, be sure to enroll your child in this excellent program at the appropriate age.
